Kudos to the University of Calgary for hosting another successful Alumni Weekend.  The UofC hosted the Alumni Weekend  from September 7 to September 9 this year and it is only the third time its hosting the event. Although having an Alumni Weekend is relatively new for the UofC, without a doubt the event is getting better and better every year.

One of lawyers, Fernando Arteaga, as a member of the Alumni Weekend Subcommittee, participated with others in planning of the event. He certainly was very excited that things ran smoothly and the Alumni Weekend had a good turnout. “For me the Alumni Weekend is a great opportunity to visit my alma mater, meet new students and say hi to familiar faces,” Fernando adds “plus I get to know first hand what the UofC is plans to do to continue to have a positive impact in this Province.”

Besides volunteering with the Alumni Weekend Subcommittee, Fernando also participated in the Race of the Rexes at the Kick off Event of the Alumni Weekend. The Race took place during half time of a  game where the Dinos defeated the UBC Thunderbirds at McMahon Stadium.  Fernando was representing the Faculty of Law, wearing a Rex costume and his robes. Although he did not win, Fernando says that he had a great time. He adds, “I had so much fun that I will definitely do it again next year if possible.”

PROJECT H.O.P.E provides therapy to children diagnosed with physical, communication, cognitive self-help, social-emotional and /or behavioral challenges. They are partnered with Golden Hills School Division to ensure that the students receive the therapy during school hours in their schools so the children have access to this valuable therapy when they are most alert and while they are in their own community. The Gala allows Project Hope to raise funds to finance therapies for these wonderful children.

This year we were particularly excited that our office manager, Alaina Heming, spoke on behalf of all the parents of the children who are enrolled in Project H.O.P.E. Alaina stressed how Project H.O.P.E. has improved the lives of several children. Alaina offered as example to the friendly audience, the case of her daughter Maggie. Alaina emphasized that Project H.O.P.E helps people to focus on the strengths of the children attending the program. This approach helps parents to assist their children to achieve their full potential. Alaina explained how Maggie has benefited from the program and how Alaina has learned from the courage, strength and good heart of Maggie.

The staff at Heming & Associates were so proud that Alaina delivered such an emotional speech based on her personal experience with Project H.O.P.E. Anybody who has had the privilege to meet Alaina knows that her passion, courage, and loyalty inspire you to be the best you can be. On Christmas Day from 11 am to 3 pm,  the business of Strathmore will host a Free Community Christmas Dinner. Heming & Associates has gathered 19 gifts for the Christmas Day event. The theme for the 2017 Strathmore Parade is Canada 150. We will be celebrating our great country and its culture. For the very first time, the team of Heming & Associates will be joining the Strathmore Parade. JoAnne Heming and her team will be handing out candies to the children along the parade route.

Alaina Heming, our office manager, decided to mark the beginning of our renovated vision with the implementation of a new logo. We started a staff contest for the submission of our new logo. The winner of the contest would have the wonderful privilege of cleaning the staff bathroom once a week for a month. The office will provide his or her favourite cleaning products for the task.
There were several submissions from staff; however, the winning submission came from Fernando Arteaga, associate at Heming & Associates. Fernando wanted a fresh logo that reflects the origins of the firm and its close connection to Strathmore. “We are proud of being part of this wonderful team of professionals,” he says. “The name Heming reflects the name of professional individuals who are passionate about serving people.” The new logo is a letter H crowned with two wheat spikes. “We also wanted something that indicates that we are Strathmore proud,” Fernando explains.

The new logo has been implemented on our new website, and it will also be in our marketing materials. Although Fernando was very excited that his submission won the contest, he has not picked up his prize. He said that the satisfaction of winning was enough and he has forfeited his prize.
